At a glance
Google’s October 23 announcement lets Vids extract a video’s audio as a separate timeline clip, then move or trim it across scenes. Rollout began October 19 and may take up to 15 days. Workspace, Workspace Individual and personal accounts are included. This separates audio from video; it does not establish speech/music stem separation.
An explanation often needs to continue while the picture changes. Google Vids can now detach a video’s audio into its own timeline clip, allowing it to span scenes independently of the footage. Google announced the change on October 23, with gradual rollout starting October 19. Official announcement.
Previously, Google says video audio was tied to its scene and could be muted or unmuted as one unit. The new clip can be moved, trimmed or deleted without changing the picture’s timing. That creates room for a spoken sentence to lead into the next shot or continue over a close-up.
Listen through the cut
For an illustrative edit, begin with someone explaining a product, then cut to a detail shot while their sentence continues. Keep the spoken thought intact and choose the picture cut for what the audience needs to see. This edit has not been performed by CreatorStack.
Listen around the transition for a repeated word, an abrupt gap or doubled sound. If you later return to a visible speaker, check that their mouth still matches the audio. Independent tracks give you more control, but also let picture and sound drift apart.
Detaching a track is different from separating its ingredients. A recording that already contains speech and background music may still contain both after extraction; this announcement does not establish automatic stem separation or a tested noise-removal result.
Availability is still rolling out
Google lists all Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers and personal accounts, with up to 15 days for visibility from October 19. There is no enablement setting for admins or end users. If the option is missing, check rollout timing before treating that as an account fault.
The audio help guide lists a limit of 50 audio objects per video, subject to change. Start with one short transition and play the result through before reorganizing a whole project. For a longer recording, our podcast-to-shorts workflow explains how to preserve a complete thought while changing the visual edit.
